Tight Possession Game
Foundation (5-11), Youth Development (12-17), Senior (18+)
15 Players | Defensive Third, Middle Third, Attacking Third
The Set Up- Area split into two halves - make areas quite tight
- 5 Reds + 2 Blues & 6 Yellows + 2 Blue players as shown
- Reds & Yellows have to make 3 passes before transferring the ball
- Blue defenders locked - if they win possession pass into the coach to score
- Ensure there is rotation of the Blue players
Coaching Points- Passing Quality - into feet, space, split pass, first time, accuracy, weight of pass, strength of pass
- Decision Making - Timing of movement/type of skill to beat defender, type of pass
- Dispersal - Create space high & wide, make the area as big as you can
- Support - Angle (in-front & behind), distances, communication, support the player, support the ball
Team/Player Considerations- How can you support the player on the ball? - Movement & communication
- How quickly can you get your passes in - Go & show me
- When the other half has the ball, what can you do? - Postion yourself so that you have time & space
- Can you play first time once your passes are in? How can you do this?
- Challenge - Don't pass back to the same player
- Blue players can you get the ball back to me within 8 seconds? - Show me
Step it up- Striving team, increase the amount of passes before transferring the ball over
- Can only transfer the ball on one touch - encourage forward thinking
- Head height rule applies
Make it easier- Limit the amount of passes before the ball can transfer - transfer when on
- Take defenders out to make create more space & less opponents
